Couples Therapy in Enfield and Cambridge
When relationships begin to have difficulties, it is understandable that each partner may start to focus on what the other is doing wrong. Couples can become caught in a cycle of blame and defensiveness, where the same arguments are repeated but little changes. Over time, this can leave both partners feeling misunderstood, frustrated, alone and often exhausted.
Relationship counselling offers an opportunity to step back from these familiar patterns. Rather than deciding who is right or wrong, we work towards developing a deeper understanding of what happens between you. Together we can explore the patterns of communication and behaviour that may be keeping you stuck, approaching them with curiosity rather than blame. This helps each of you to better understand your own experience as well as that of your partner, often creating the conditions for more open communication, greater empathy and more satisfying ways of relating to one another.
Couples come to counselling for many different reasons. Some want to improve communication or resolve recurring conflict, while others are trying to rebuild trust after an affair, reconnect emotionally or make sense of a relationship that no longer feels as it once did. Sometimes difficulties have developed gradually over many years; at other times a single event has shaken the foundations of the relationship.
Whatever has brought you to therapy, I aim to provide a safe, respectful and contained space where you can both speak openly, feel heard and begin to understand one another more fully. Together we can work towards a deeper understanding of yourselves, your relationship and the patterns that have developed between you. As this understanding grows, many couples discover new ways of relating that feel more constructive, connected and satisfying.
